2 – Just a Feeling

Stephanie sighed with relief as she sipped a bottle of water she just got from a vending machine. Her vocal coach was sick today so she was off until her Korean lessons later. It had almost been 4 days since she got here and this was the first break she got other than sleeping and eating. As she wondered around the building, she could hear some loud music off in the distance.

“I wonder what that is…” she said quietly to herself.

Stephanie followed the music until she found a rehearsal room where a lot of her new friends were. It looked like they were dancing.

“I don’t remember having a group dance rehearsal scheduled today…” She thought.

Just as she began to leave and check for a schedule, a hand grabbed her arm.

“Hey, come in and watch. They guys are having a dance battle!” Dana said as she pulled Stephanie through the room to some makeshift risers on the other side.

Stephanie watched the guys in the big circle taking turns jumping in and showing off some moves. She caught Micky’s gaze as he was coming back from his turn. He waved and smiled, so she waved back. Stephanie began chatting with the other girls but soon realized that the music stopped. She looked up and saw that some of the Super Junior guys were whispering and pointing at her.

“Hey, new girl, Your specialty is dancing right? Why don’t you come over here and show us what you got?” Eunhyuk said cockily. Stephanie didn’t really understand what he was saying, so she just sat there with a confused look on her face. Kibum smiled and translated for her.

“He wants you to come show us your dancing” He said to her.
Stephanie smiled confidently, “Alright…”
She stood up and stretched a bit, setting down her drink on her seat, and walked over to them.

“Where’s the music?” She asked, pulling her hair out of the ponytail she had it in.

Donghae leaned over and clicked a button on the boom box. He turned the volume knob and a heavy dance beat started playing. Stephanie took a deep breath and let the rhythm move her body. She started swaying her hips, getting into the flow of the music and then she took off. Her body leaped, spun, and snapped perfectly with the beat. Everyone could tell she knew what she was doing.

Eunhyuk’s face started turning red because he was expecting to school her, but instead he was the one being taught a lesson. Some of the other guys started whooping and hollering, cheering Stephanie on. She smiled and singled out a target for her next moves.

Stephanie eyed Micky and then spun over to him. She placed her hands on his shoulders and led him into the middle with her hips, staying on beat with the music. Micky started dancing too and Stephanie showed off some more contemporary style dancing. After she finished with Micky, she called Eunhyuk out and began dancing with him. Just to throw in that last bit of oomph, when the song was near its end, she lifted her leg up and swiped it straight up in front of Eunhyuk’s face. This caused him to almost fall backward. The other guys caught him, their eyes wide with amazement, and everyone started clapping.

Stephanie smiled and bowed, thanking everyone. The guys kept talking about her and tried imitating her moves as she walked away. Stephanie took a big drink from her water and pushed her hair back, putting it in a ponytail. When she turned back around, Micky was standing there.

“You really know how to move those hips. You were sexy out there.”

“Heh…thanks. I just let the music take me.”

Micky smiled and his heart began to beat a little faster.

“Um…Since everyone has Saturday off, some of us decided to go do karaoke Saturday night. If you’re not busy…do you wanna….go with me? Its kind of like…..a…..um…..big date….thing…..with everyone…..” He asked, obviously nervous.

Stephanie could feel the eyes on her back so she turned around. The 5 girls she knew were all sitting behind her, listening in on the conversation. They were all nodding pretty fast and smiling so Stephanie started laughing and turned back around.

“Um…yeah….that’d be nice…”

“Alright! Um…I’ll come by your room around 8:00 then, on Saturday.”
“Ok…It’s a…date then.”

“Yeah…a date!” Micky said, laughing in relief as he ran back to the guys.

Stephanie turned around and all the girls started squealing and giggling. She sat down next to Sunday and tried to catch what they were saying.

“Junsu asked me yesterday if I would go with him!” Sunday blurted out, giggling.

“Awww! You’re going with Junsu, BoA is going with Donghae, Lina is going with Kangin, and Jang Ri In is going with Han Kyung, and now Stephanie is going with Micky!!! No one has asked me yet…I’m probably gonna get one of the dorky guys!” Dana whined.

Stephanie laughed and patted Dana’s knee, “Don’t worry…I’m sure someone will ask you before Saturday.”

Dana made a face and kicked her feet a little, feeling a bit frustrated.
Stephanie glanced at the clock and stood up.

“My lessons are pretty soon, so I’m gonna go study. I’ll see you guys later!” She said as she left.

While she was walking down the hall, she saw Kibum at the water fountain. He stood up and wiped his mouth.

“Hey, Stephanie. Are you going to karaoke on Saturday?”

“Yeah, Micky just asked me to go. I think it’ll be fun!” She said, smiling a bit.

“Oh…uh, well, I’ll see you there then!” Kibum said. He trotted off down the hallway, waving bye as he went back into the room.

“…weird reaction…” Stephanie thought as she made her way back to her room. She was hoping the excitement of going would help these next few days go by pretty fast.
